dead gods

|
|

dead gods
fattened on our toil
dead gods
leaking rust and oil
flaunting money in our faces
gripping us in cold embraces
while they chase us and debase us
creeping on the ground
never telling what the price is
crushing us in golden vices
burning human sacrifices
in their shiny towers
dead gods
dead gods
creeping on the earth
dead gods
rotting in the sun

The Alley

Here I am at the corner
In my bare feet
Shadow in your window
Beggar on the street
This is me in the alley
Looking for a scrap to eat
Every day a battle
Demons to defeat
So maybe you can clarify
Why you’re looking at me
Like it’s just another movie
On your big screen TV
Some call me a loser
Others say unwise.
Maybe just unlucky
Or an angel in disguise
So maybe you can clarify
Why you’re looking at me
Like it’s just another movie
On your big screen TV

Parsley in Her Teeth

He met Mary Ann back when they were in grade ten
She was a hippy girl, he was just a geek back then
She helped him with his math, she made him feel like quite a man
The only thing was, she had parsley in her teeth
They graduated high school and thumbed a ride to PEI
He played video games while she got her PhD
She took a job at Harvard, he sold fridges and TVs
The only thing was, she had parsley in her teeth
They married on a Monday, underneath a monkey tree
Then they moved to Moose Jaw, beside a factory
How the years went by, it’s just a mystery
He loves everything about her, even the parsley in her teeth
